Nursing Care 2nd semester

Human Anatomy & Physiology 102

The PHC101 module will provide the student nurse with competencies required to provide holistic care for individuals, families, groups and communities in the primary health care setting and to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare service delivery. This module consists of the fundamental principles of primary health care, primary healthcare reengineering, healthcare delivery systems, epidemiology, levels of care and National Health Insurance in South Africa.


The EPP101 module covers the legal framework for nursing practice, professionalism, organizational values, ethical concepts, ethical dilemmas, principles of professional practice and professional regulations. This module is integrated in all modules and it will provide the student nurse with the framework to be applied in ethical decision-making during nursing practice.


This module consists of historical and contemporary nursing practice, nursing theories, the scientific nursing approach and fundamentals of nursing. It will provide the student nurse with competencies required to provide safe clinical nursing care to the sick, disabled individuals and groups with stable, uncomplicated health problems. 


The HAP101 module covers introduction to the human body, the chemical, cellular and tissue level of organization, anatomical structures, systems, physiological processes, introduction to biochemistry, biophysics, and microbiology of the human body systems.


This course is regulated by the South African Nursing Council, Regulation 683. It consists of 2 (two) academic years and they are referred to as levels. Th subjects include Integrated Nusing Science I and II, Integrated Social Sciences I and II and Ethos and Professional Practice I and II.

The GNS200 module covers the improvement in the quality of medical and surgical nursing healthcare through the implementation of effective decision making and problem solving skills within the community of medical and surgical health care service delivery at local and national level within the community, primary health care service delivery and hospital context.

The Clinical GNS200 module covers the improvement in the quality of medical and surgical nursing healthcare through the implementation of effective decision making and problem solving skills within the community of medical and surgical health care service delivery at local and national level within the community, primary health care service delivery and hospital context.


Midwifery 100 deals with the anatomy and physiology and management of an uncomplicated pregnancy in the antenatal, labour and Postnatal periods.

CMID 100 (The clinical component of MID100)

Students will be allocated to midwifery/maternity units for six (6) weeks (including skills training at the college) before the theoretical examination. 


The BNS 200 module is a continuation of an introduction to the Anatomy of the human body, done and completed in first year (BNS 100). The second year Biological and Natural Sciences focuses more on the Physiology of all the systems.  The chemical, cellular and tissue level of organization, systems, physiological processes, introduction to biochemistry, biophysics, and microbiology of the human body systems.

This course forms the fundamental basis for Psychiatric Nursing Science that will be done in third and fourth years of study
It also introduces the Promotion of Mental Health Care concepts, Psychological Trauma and basic Counselling to create an awareness of the relationship between Socio – Cultural change and Socio – Cultural Problems and the promotion of Mental Health Care

This module consists of introduction to healthcare management, human resource management, leadership and management, financial, emergency and risk management and quality assurance. It includes the teaching function of a Unit manager, Nursing ethics and professional practice and Research


Clinical component of GNS 300

Midwifery 200 deals with the complications of Pregnancy during the all the phases of Pregnancy as well as the management of a Maternity Unit, Reseach and Ethics

This module consists of Psychiatric healthcare promotion of mental wellbeing and improve early diagnosis, treatment and support.


Community Nursing Science 200

Communication forms an integral part of leadership. This short course is aimed at student leadership to assist you to effectively communicate with Management, Lecturers and student groups at large.
